The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)'s page says:
"Languages: diversity, participation, dialogue -- Languages contribute significantly to integration processes in schools, the media, the workplace, political life and public services. However, thousands of languages are absent in these areas, and
fifty per cent of the world's 6,000 languages are in danger of disappearing. In this context, UNESCO has a duty to take action through its complex normative framework in favour of multilingualism."
