Hiraizumi, next to Ichinoseki, was registered as a World Heritage Site.
Ichinoseki local news paper, Iwate Nichinichi, today reported it on its top page.
Hiraizumi people, Iwate people and Japanese people are celebrating the registration.
It will encourage people in the devastated areas who are struggling to recover.
