StarOffce/StarSuite users think that it is a Sun's product, it is developed by Sun.
OpenOffice.org users and developers think that it is "my," "your" and "our" product, it is developed by "me," "you" and "us."
This is the greatest difference :)
Now we all hope that Sun sells more SO/SS and provides users with good support services, and continues supporting OpenOffice.org the product and the community with resources.
Some prefer SO/SS. Some prefer OpenOffice.org. It's their choice.
You know, there must be countless Office Suite users and prospects on the earth, in the spaces (including Klingon people), in the fantasylands (including Elvish people) and more, whom we have not reached yet :)
Off-line meetings, to meet people face-to-face, eyes-to-eyes, voice-to-voice, is very important for mutual trust and communication.
That is why we have OOoCons and RegiCons.
Some OpenOffice.org Japanese Native Language Project team members visited Sun Microsystems Japan Yokohama Office located at 19th floor in the Yokohama Landmark Tower.
We met Sun's Globalization team members, a translation and review staff and a QA staff, and had a talk and discussion. They demonstrated for us how to use Sun Translation Editor and Sun Glossary Tool on the Sun Globalization Portal.
To meet them I travelled 2 hours and half Shinkansen (Super Express) from Ichinoseki to Tokyo and 1 hour train and walk from Tokyo to the Sun Yokohama Office.
How nice we had the off-line meeting! Believe me, now, we have good and trusted communication on-line @ja.openoffice.org.
Dutch Native Language Project team led by Simon is innovative. Styles and Formatting can be tranlated for Dutch: Opmaakprofielen en opmaak
Recent proposal from the team was: Opmaakset which can be translated in English: Make-up set
Now another innovative proposal has come from them: Opmaakbeheer which would be in English: Styles Manager or Style Manager
The long familiar OpenOffice.org menu Stylist has been renamed Styles and Formatting.
For StarOffice/StarSuite 8 "Styles and Formatting" has been translated into several languages:
樣式和格式 -- Traditional Chinese (zh-TW) Estilo y formato -- Spanish (es-ES) Estilos e formatação -- Portuguese (pt-BR) 스타일 및 서식 -- Korean (ko-KR) styles et formatage -- French (fr-FR) スタイルと書式設定 -- Japanese (ja-JP)
I think, for example, for French, Styles and Formatting can be translated Styliste, in stead of styles et formatage.
I am collecting translations of Styles and Formatting. :)
Please email me your translations in your languages with Character Encoding UTF-8.
